Del Mar, CA – Free beach yoga has officially returned to Ocean Beach following a significant legal victory for San Diego’s wellness community. The popular “Yoga on the Cliffs” program resumed its weekly sessions after an appeals court overturned the city’s controversial ban on public yoga classes, declaring it unconstitutional. The ruling has allowed the beloved community tradition, which has been bringing residents together since 2009, to once again take place at its scenic cliffside location overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
Founded by local yoga instructor Jennifer Diamond, Yoga on the Cliffs has been a cornerstone of Ocean Beach’s community culture for over a decade. The program’s forced hiatus following the citywide ban had left a noticeable void in the neighborhood’s wellness offerings. The court’s decision to overturn these restrictions has been celebrated by yoga enthusiasts and community advocates alike, who view the free classes as an essential part of San Diego’s outdoor wellness culture and an important opportunity for community connection regardless of economic status.

Yoga on the Cliffs welcomes participants of all experience levels to join their weekly sessions held every Saturday at 10:30 am throughout the summer months. The classes take place at Osprey Point in Ocean Beach, sometimes referred to by locals as “The Wedding Spot” or the second parking lot south of Point Loma Avenue. To help newcomers locate the gathering, Diamond places purple cones to mark the exact spot where yogis should unroll their mats.
The hour-long sessions feature a gentle, Hatha-based flow designed to strengthen both body and mind while being accessible to beginners and experienced practitioners alike. No prior yoga experience is necessary to participate, making it an ideal activity for neighborhood residents looking to try something new. Attendees should bring a yoga mat, a beach towel to place underneath for stability on the natural surface, and a positive attitude. While the classes are offered free of charge, a suggested donation of $10-$25 helps support Diamond’s continued teaching efforts in the community. Those interested in attending can find additional information or RSVP through the program’s website.
